چکیده

Camera-laser calibration is necessary for many robotics and computer vision applications. However, existing calibration toolboxes still require laborious effort from the operator in order to achieve reliable and accurate results. This paper proposes algorithms that augment two existing trustful calibration methods with an automatic extraction of the calibration object from the sensor data. The result is a complete procedure that allows for automatic cameralaser calibration. The first stage of the procedure is automatic camera calibration which is useful in its own right for many applications. The chessboard extraction algorithm it provides is shown to outperform openly available techniques. The second stage completes the procedure by providing automatic cameralaser calibration. The procedure has been verified by extensive experimental tests with the proposed algorithms providing a major reduction in time required from an operator in comparison to manual methods.

Automatic Targetless Extrinsic Calibration of a 3D Lidar and Camera by Maximizing Mutual Information

This paper reports on a mutual information (MI) based algorithm for automatic extrinsic calibration of a 3D laser scanner and optical camera system. By using MI as the registration criterion, our method is able to work in situ without the need for any specific calibration targets, which makes it practical for in-field calibration. The calibration parameters are estimated by maximizing the mutua...

Estimation of Interior Orientation and Eccentricity Parameters of a Hybrid Imaging and Laser Scanning Sensor

Nowadays hybrid imaging and laser scanning sensors are common for terrestrial surveying purposes. The basic idea is to complement laser scanning, which directly yields 3D information, with digital image capture, which delivers high resolution images for measurement and texturing. The image sensors are internally built in a scanner or externally mounted on top. The advantage of external mounted ...

POLYOC: Photogrammetric Measurements of Buildings and Architectural Models via Multi-View Stereovision

We present a new method to derive a reliable 3D description of buildings and architectural models based on stereovision using multiple camera views. This multi-view stereo technique has been successfully applied to many objects and has proved to be more reliable and more accurate than the well known binocular and even trinocular stereo techniques. The method has the following attractive feature...

Modelling and Calibration Technique of Laser Triangulation Sensors for Integration in Robot Arms and Articulated Arm Coordinate Measuring Machines

A technique for intrinsic and extrinsic calibration of a laser triangulation sensor (LTS) integrated in an articulated arm coordinate measuring machine (AACMM) is presented in this paper. After applying a novel approach to the AACMM kinematic parameter identification problem, by means of a single calibration gauge object, a one-step calibration method to obtain both intrinsic-laser plane, CCD s...

Pattern - Theoretic Foundations of Automatic Target Recognition

This effort advanced the art of applying Grenander's pattern theory to automatic target recognition (ATR) problems. We extended jump-diffusion ATR algorithms to accommodate unknown infrared camera calibration effects and include more stable diffusion procedures for pose refinement, and developed flexible shape models to accommodate clutter. We also developed performance bounds on estimation and...
